Getting By Without Google Maps
Here, the big picture. In the book: the full method and the detailed walkthrough.
Description
OsmAnd is the most complete offline navigation app based on OpenStreetMap. Country-by-country downloadable maps, car/bike/pedestrian/ski navigation, contour lines for hiking, nautical plugins. The interface is rich but dense, with a learning curve. More powerful than Organic Maps, less intuitive. Free with limited map downloads, or paid to unlock everything.
My take
The Swiss Army knife of maps: more complete than Organic Maps, but harder to tame. I keep it for advanced uses, hiking first. My comparison is in chapter 10.
