A step-by-step journey, service by service, to stop entrusting your whole digital life to a single company. Each chapter covers one Google service and follows the same method, DÉCLIC: discover what Google holds, evaluate the consequences of leaving, choose alternatives, free your data progressively, cut the services you no longer need.
A guide for everyone, which requires neither being an IT specialist nor becoming a digital hermit.
Author biographies
Three lengths, to use as is or to adapt.
Short bio
Guillaume Limare, an entrepreneur then tech executive for twenty years, is the author of Vivre sans Google (Éditions Eyrolles, 2026).
Medium bio
Guillaume Limare spent twenty years in the digital economy. As an ESSEC student, he co-founded monCV.com in 2006, then held marketing, product and revenue leadership roles at Allociné, Oscaro, Aramisauto and Legalstart. His trade, buying and selling attention online, gave him an insider’s understanding of Google’s advertising model. In November 2025, he deleted his Google account and shared the experience on LinkedIn; the post was read nearly 400,000 times. It became Vivre sans Google, published by Éditions Eyrolles on October 22, 2026.
Long bio
Guillaume Limare is a graduate of ESSEC, with studies at INSEAD and Télécom Paris. In 2006, while still a student, he co-founded monCV.com, a startup incubated at ESSEC Ventures that he ran for four years with two partners up to 250,000 users. He then led international marketing at Allociné, marketing and product at Oscaro, and marketing, communications and product at Aramisauto until its 2021 IPO, before heading revenue at Legalstart from 2023 to July 2026. Twenty years building and optimising the tools that capture the most personal data. In November 2025, he deleted his Google account after twenty years of use and shared the experience on LinkedIn. The post was read nearly 400,000 times and hundreds of readers asked him the same question: where do I start? He answers it in Vivre sans Google, published in French by Éditions Eyrolles on October 22, 2026, and in Le Déclic, his weekly newsletter on digital independence. He now devotes himself entirely to writing.

Possible angles
- Why now: AI, the Cloud Act, US visas conditioned on social media accounts, the closed accounts of an International Criminal Court judge.
- A Google account centralises everything: three concrete risks, the advertising profile, dependence on a single company, a privacy nothing guarantees.
- The DÉCLIC method: leave one service at a time, without breaking anything or spending weeks on it.
- Neither a hermit nor anti-Google: diversify your tools the way you diversify your savings.
Quotes
« I am neither a digital hermit nor anti-Google. Their products are excellent. I simply advocate diversity of tools: just as we are advised to diversify our savings, we cannot entrust our entire digital life to one single company, a foreign one at that. »
« Who can guarantee these services will still be available and free in five years? Nobody. Leaving Google is not just about erasing the past. It is also about securing the future. »
« We spend most of our lives in front of computers and phones, yet our privacy is not respected in the digital world. It is time to take back control. »
