Description
PeerTube is a decentralized video platform on the Fediverse. Each instance hosts its own videos, but all instances can communicate. No advertising, no recommendation algorithm. Streaming uses P2P to reduce server load. Developed by Framasoft, a French nonprofit. The audience is small compared to YouTube, but the tech and open source community is active.
My take
A great French project, but its catalog doesn't replace YouTube day to day. For your usual channels, go through FreeTube or NewPipe instead. I explain that nuance in chapter 9.

This topic is chapter 9 of my book
It answers these questions, among others:
- how do you follow your channels without an account, device by device, TV included?
- why do I advise against ReVanced, despite its popularity?
- and what happens to your screen time when the algorithm disappears?
