Description
NewPipe is an alternative YouTube client for Android. No ads, no Google account required, background playback and video downloads. The app doesn't use YouTube's official API: it scrapes pages directly. This means updates are frequent (YouTube often changes its code). Available on F-Droid, not on the Play Store.
My take
On Android, it's the tool I recommend for YouTube: background playback and downloads, no Google account. My method for taking back control of YouTube is in chapter 9.
